Research and development sample tooling is normally a one-up tool used to size a part to a bezel or into a recessed area before final tooling is built.
R&D tools can also be used for:
- Testing to see how well a new material will cut
- Checking to see how a material will react between close internal cutouts
- Running low volume production orders
